Our good friend and musical companion Jeremy Parker got himself hitched last weekend at a beautiful ceremony in Princeton, MA. One week before that we took the opportunity to fill him full of food and booze on one of his last nights out as a single man. He was not too drunk to tear up some keyboards with the band. Other special guests that night included Jeff Buckridge and “Cowboy” Ben Alman.
This past week we played a benefit for the Children’s Tumor Foundation at the Seaport Hotel in Boston. The Foundation works with people and families affected by neurofibromatoses and is helping to fund research for treatment and some day a cure. Guest speakers at the event included former Massachusetts governor Mike Dukakis and his wife Kitty.
It was Los Sugar Kings in the round today for the Northern Essex Community College Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration.
A younger audience than we’re used to, but they were enthusiastic!

This week I had a chance to stop by Stephen Marsh Mastering in Hollywood where LSK was mastered. Thier facilty is beautiful and it was great to meet them in person. Stephen was the mastering engineer on the album assisted by Stephanie Villa. They’ve got golden ears.

We were really honored to be asked to take part in the garden dedication honoring the life of Nina Vickers. Though neither Patino or I ever met Nina in person (other than seeing her in her Lobster costume in Salem, MA), we feel humbled & inspired by the amount of life she was able to lead and the way her life improved the lives of those around her. Thank you Nina for setting such a great example of a life lived to the fullest. More pictures of the dedication ceremony…

Yup.. I had a great time for the 1st night of my bachelor party up until about 2:30am when I ran into the wrong kunuck.. what can ya’ do, I don’t fault the good people of Montreal but I would like about 3 minutes alone with two of their citizens.. Luckily, the layoff will be a short one and Henry Terrones is covering the low-end for us handedly.. Thanks Henry. My thanks also to Gilberto for takin’ a sucker punch from the other kunuck and all my boys for hooking up a great weekend regardless.. Bright side, I had a great time just singing and playin’ MO COWBELL at Johnny D’s last week and the doc says it won’t be long.. I’m hopin’ to be back on my bass full time by the mid July.. I’ll also be resurrecting my ol’ doghouse acoustic very soon thanks to some direction from Timo Shanko.. Thanks everyone for the well wishes.. Mik
Q: Hey, some of these songs are already on my mondoSweetie - Infusion and/or El Mundo Dulce. What’s the deal?
A: mondoSweetie was the prototype for Los Sugar Kings. LSK is the band we wanted way back then, so we grew out of all that experimentation with lineups and material. The mondosweetie output can be seen as a demo for Los Sugar Kings, and you can expect to hear more of those tunes in the future with the live energy of Los Sugar Kings. We recorded all 15 tracks for LSK in one day! Most of them first takes, and even 90% of the solos. The only thing we overdubbed were the vocals and harmonies. The band had the year of playing live before we committed to the studio. Now we have our own studio to record the next CD, which we hope to release for Christmas. This next CD will feature many of the ballads, boleros, and acoustic tones performed in a live studio. That’s the fundamental difference. Mondosweetie was a patchwork of performances and overdubs. LSK is more true to the original performance. Having said that, I still think these CD are worth listening to for the musicians who appeared on them are some of the most outstanding I’ve encountered. If you don’t have them, get them here:

I’ve also been busy writing new material, mostly in English, and these songs will show up in various guises. Til’ then, enjoy LSK. Come dance at the shows. Keep on rockin’.
